There will be a new president of Legia. Dariusz Mioduski resigns from his position

he was the president from March 2017, i.e. from the moment he bought shares from and Maciej Wandzl, and became the majority owner of the club.

Although since then the Warsaw club has won the championship four times and the Polish Cup once, the independent rule of Mioduski was not perceived as successful – for Legia the determinant of success is achievements in European cups, and they were missing. It was only this season that the Warsaw team advanced to the group stage of the Europa League, but it quickly turned out that an effective game on two fronts was beyond the capabilities of Legia.

The European performances affected the team’s disposition in the league so much that at this moment, after 21 matches, Aleksandar Vukovic’s team is on the penultimate place in the table with 19 points on the account. Legionnaires who have one more match left over to a safe place lose three points.

The club’s worst sports situation in years, organizational turmoil, increasing debt, as well as Mioduski’s non-football activities – recently voiced about the controversial sale of Legia courts to a private company – caused growing dissatisfaction among fans. Legia fans protested against Mioduski in the previous season, demanding his resignation from the chairmanship.

Then the situation was calmed down by the team’s results during the term of coach Czesław Michniewicz, now the problem has returned with redoubled strength. The fans again demanded the dismissal of Mioduski, also demanding the heads of his closest advisor, Tomasz Zahorski, as well as the sports director, Radosaw Kucharski.

And while the latter stopped working in Legia at the end of December, there were no major changes in the management of the club. A month ago, the portal only announced that the three-person board of Legia (apart from Mioduski and Zahorski, Jarosław Jurczak belonged to him) will be joined by Marcin Herra, who has been on the board of Legia Tenis company for less than a year.

Mioduski will cease to be the president of Legia Warszawa

Back then, the message from the club was simple: Herra will join the management board, but there is no change in the position of the president of Legia and there will be no change in the near future. When we asked in the last weeks at Łazienkowska Street if such a move was being considered at all, we heard from all interlocutors that it was not. That Herra’s entry into the board of directors has nothing to do with it.

Initially, Herra was to become the vice president of Legia, but our information shows that the situation suddenly changed. What influenced Mioduski’s decision – it is not known exactly, but the growing dissatisfaction in the stands certainly had a huge impact. In short: by resigning from the position of president, Mioduski wants to buy some more time from fans.

The more so that for the Friday league match against Wisła Kraków at Łazienkowska Street, Legia fans are planning a protest against Mioduski’s actions. “We are heading to the first league. There are no premises that would contradict the statement in the previous sentence. We are losing and barely tied with the teams neighboring us in the table. Why should it be better? ” – we read in the statement of “Unknown Perpetrators”, i.e. the Legia fan group.

The fans planned to protest not only during the match, but also before it, during a joint march to the stadium. It seems that on Friday they will be protesting against Mioduski’s owner, not the club’s president. According to our information, this will officially be Herra from Thursday.

Herra worked in the past, among others in PL.2012, which was responsible for coordinating preparations for Euro 2012, and which later managed the national stadium in Warsaw. Herra was also the vice-president of the Handball Federation in Poland.
