CSKA reacted to falling under US sanctions

CSKA General Director Roman Babaev called the decision of the US Treasury to impose sanctions on the Moscow club unexpected. It is reported by “Sport-Express”.

“The club continues to function normally, the team is calmly preparing for the resumption of the season and the Saturday derby, and our lawyers are looking into the situation,” Babaev said. He also stressed that the army team will act on the basis of the thesis that sport is out of politics.

On February 22, the US Treasury confirmed the imposition of sanctions against the Russian banks VEB and Promsvyazbank, as well as their 42 subsidiaries. CSKA was sanctioned as an asset of VEB Bank. As a result, football players will not be able to do business in the US, for example, the possibility of signing advertising contracts with American firms is excluded.

CSKA after 18 rounds of the Russian Premier League (RPL) has 30 points and is in fourth place in the standings. On February 26, the army team will face Spartak in the first match after the winter break.
