The Frenchman Gael Monfils was declared absent this Tuesday for the Davis Cup qualifier against Ecuador next week in Pau (southwest France).
“I suffered a small health problem (probably due to the third dose of vaccine)”, the French tennis player specified on his Twitter account.
“According to my doctor’s advice, I decided to take some time to rest. So unfortunately I won’t be able to play the Davis Cup next week,” Monfils said.
The French star lost his debut in Montpellier in early February against Sweden’s Mikael Ymer, a week after his Australian Open quarter-final loss to Italy’s Matteo Berrettini.
Twelve countries must qualify for the Davis Cup final phase through a playoff tie, to be added to the four directly qualified countries: the finalists of the last edition Russia and Croatia, as well as two guests, Great Britain and Serbia.
France and Ecuador will meet on March 4 and 5 in Pau. (D)
