Polish Deputy Prime Minister Yaroslav Kaczynski, who oversees security issues, has proposed boycotting international sports competitions held in Russia. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“This will create problems for Russia, very serious problems, and, on the other hand, it will also show the Russian society that it is impossible to act in this way,” Kaczynski said. He considered that other countries should refuse to participate in all sporting events scheduled for 2022 in Russia.
Earlier, on February 22, it became known that the Polish Football Association would apply to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) regarding the hosting of the 2022 World Cup qualification match against Russia in Moscow. The Poles will ask to move the meeting to a neutral field after Russia recognizes the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR).
Unofficial sources in UEFA consider it possible to postpone the match only in case of a dangerous situation at the venue of the game. The meeting should take place on March 24 at the Moscow stadium “VTB Arena”.
