The fifteenth edition of Laboral Kutxa Punta Galea Challengethe longest-running big wave surfing competition in Europe, will be held today february 22 with a weather forecast advancing waves of “around the six meters tall“, As confirmed on Monday by the organizers.
The parties announce for tomorrow “yellow warning for impact on the coast” which in La Galea translates, in addition to those six meter waves, into “absence of wind throughout the day and a high period of 15 seconds”.
Low tide will be at noon and in the afternoon, as it rises, it will reach “peak moment of the day, with spectacular conditions“. The competition will start at 9:00 a.m. and the finals are scheduled around 6:00 p.m.
This year the economic endowment allocated to prizes has increased by 50%, up to 20,500 euros.
