Justyna Kowalczyk-Tekieli ended her career in 2018. The five-time Olympic medalist made this decision immediately after the unsuccessful games in which she did not count in the fight for medals. She had announced it earlier, but as it turns out, she somewhat regrets the move and the resignation from the performance in Beijing.
Kowalczyk wanted to perform in Beijing. “Four years to late”
During this year’s games, she was an expert at Eurosport, where she commented on the race, but also sat in the studio. On Monday, a former runner admitted honestly on the air that she could have done very well on the difficult routes in Zhangjiakou.
– It was not an easy experience for me, because the location of the routes and their profile, they did it to me. Four years too late – admitted Kowalczyk half-jokingly, half-seriously – I don’t know what my decision would have been four years ago, if I had known what the route would be like. Perhaps I would take a two-year break, I don’t know, I don’t know … – said our master.
Justyna Kowalczyk-Tekieli is the most titled Polish athlete at the Winter Olympics. The former runner has five medals to her credit – two gold (Vancouver 2010), one silver (Vancouver 2010) and two bronze (Turin 2006, Vancouver 2010).
Since March 2021, Kowalczyk-Tekieli has been the sports director of the Polish Association. Previously, however, she was the assistant to the main trainer of the Polish team of runners.
