The city of Gliwice is the majority shareholder. Every year, the city gives the club multi-million dollar grants. Now it has become apparent how this money is spent. An anonymous letter from a person who expressed great concern about how the club spends money from the city was released.
Piast Gliwice throws millions down the drain? Terrifying data
In the letter published by the former presidential candidate of Gliwice, Kajetan Gornig, we read primarily about the cost of maintaining four players removed from the team. They are Nikola Stojiljković, Patryk Lipski, Dominik Steczyk and Tomasz Jodłowiec. “Considering only intentional or unintentional, wrong decisions from a few months ago, the CLUB may lose only 4 players: Stojiljkovic, Steczyk, Jodłowiec, Lipski = PLN 3,300,000 and we are talking only about the LAST HALF YEAR. We are talking about players who need to pay because they have important contracts, and will not be taken into account for further performances for the club “- we read in the letter. The above amount includes the salaries of players, commissions for managers and the compensation amounts that Piast had to pay on transfers.
Doubts of the letter’s author are also raised by the club’s cooperation with management agencies and the amounts that Piast Gliwice spends on transfers. “Is it MORAL to spend over PLN 2.5 million on player transfers during the current winter transfer window? Michał Kaput: PLN 400,000, Rauno Sappinen: EUR 400,000 thousand = PLN 1.8 million, Constantin Reiner: ok EUR 50,000 = PLN 225,000 This amount is much higher, does not include the amount of commission for the managers of new players: Kamil Wilczek, Tihomir Konstadinov Add to this the amount of Damian Kądzior’s buyout in July 2021: approximately EUR 500,000 = 2.2 million zlotys, it gives a shocking amount: much more than 5 million zlotys! And we are talking here only about the period of the last six months! When collecting the above costs, could the club not invest this money in sports fields or academies, with which there is still a problem in Gliwice? Gliwice has only ONE damaged field with artificial turf in Sikornik and must use the pitches in Knurów (!) or Rybnik (!). Not to mention the COMPROMISING club of the main turf at Okrzei 20 “- he writes anonymous author.
Piast has already responded to these allegations. “The company is conducted in a transparent manner, is subject to control, and the supervisory board exercises permanent supervision over the company’s management. All contracts with players and transfer agreements are previously approved by the supervisory board and the company’s management board. The company is managed effectively, which is confirmed by a positive result In our opinion, the company’s operations should be assessed as a whole, and not only on the basis of individual contracts, “the press release reads.
Despite this, the press spokesman of the president of Gliwice announced that the city authorities would take appropriate steps and try to clarify the matter. “In the context of the anonymity regarding the Gliwice Sports Club” Piast “SA, I would like to inform you that the city obliged the company’s supervisory board to address the allegations made in the letter. Urgent verification measures were also taken by the Department of Ownership Supervision of the Municipal Office in Gliwice. The city is the majority shareholder of the company and will certainly benefit from from all the tools provided for by law to clarify the matter. At this stage, we cannot address the allegations made in the letter in more detail, “we read in the announcement sent to the portal gliwice.naszemiasto.pl.
