Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko summed up the participation of Russian Olympians in the 2022 Games in Beijing. His words are given in the Match TV Telegram channel.
Chernyshenko said that 32 awards at the Games in Beijing is a historic achievement in terms of the amount of medals in the entire history of Russian participation in the Winter Olympics. “The Russian team performed with dignity and showed resilience and strong-willed qualities in difficult conditions,” he stressed. The Deputy Prime Minister added that domestic Olympians should be in the top three of the unofficial medal count at the 2030 Olympics.
The Russian team won 32 medals at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, including six gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze medals. Skiers brought the most medals to the team – they have 11 awards, figure skating is in second place with six awards, biathlon is third – four medals.
Thus, Russian athletes have updated the national record for the number of awards won at the Winter Olympics. They surpassed the Games in Sochi-2014.
The host city for the 2030 Winter Olympics is to be chosen at the 139th or 140th session of the International Olympic Committee in 2022 or 2023.
