Lawyers for the US figure skaters have appealed to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with a demand to hold an awards ceremony for the winners of the Olympic team tournament in Beijing. AP reports.
A corresponding letter was sent to IOC President Thomas Bach. In addition, lawyers have turned to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in an effort to resolve the issue before the closing ceremony of the Games, which will be held on Sunday, February 20.
The US figure skating team took second place in the team tournament. The Russian team won the gold. However, against the backdrop of a scandal with a dubious doping test of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, the IOC decided to first postpone and then refuse to hold the awards ceremony.
CAS took the side of Valieva. The results of the Russian team were not canceled, and the skater herself continued to perform at the Olympics. In the individual tournament, she remained outside the top three.
