It is because representatives of many nations meet. Everyone is nice to each other. But Hitler did the same before the invasion of Poland, as did Russia before the invasion of Ukraine, said Nils van der Poel.
Let us recall that two years before Adolf Hitler came to power, the decision was made to award Berlin the 1936 Summer Olympics. As expected by skeptics, the celebration of sport turned into a celebration of propaganda of the Third Reich. Three years later, Hitler attacked Poles in World War II.
On the other hand, when speaking about the invasion of Ukraine, Nils van der Poel had in mind the situation of 2014. It was this year that the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine began in the form of a hybrid war.
– It is very irresponsible to give the games to a country that violates human rights as blatantly as the Chinese regime does. However, I cannot say anything more, because there are still representatives of Sweden in Beijing, added Nils van der Poel.
The Swede was also asked why he did not express such severe criticism during his stay in China. “I don’t know if it would be wise to criticize China beforehand if I had to go there first,” he explained.
