Magnus Sheffield wins the third stage with a breakaway in the last kilometer

The American Magnus Sheffield (Ineos) won this Friday the third stage of the 68th edition of the Cycling Tour of Andalusia between Lucena (Córdoba) and Otura (153 kilometers) by appearing alone at the finish line after escaping in the last kilometer.

In the antepenultimate round of the Andalusian round, the Russian team Gazprom Rusvelo did not start, as one of its runners tested positive for covid-19 and as a preventive measure.

The Italian Alessandro Kovi (UAE Team Emirates) continues for the second consecutive day as the leader of the race, with an 8-second advantage over the Colombian Miguel Angel ‘Superman’ Lopez (Astana), who defends the title achieved in 2021.

Jon Barrenetxea (Rural Box), Xavier Isasa and Ibai Azurmendi (Euskaltel) and Juan Antonio Lopez-Cozar (Burgos) were the protagonists of the day with a break that was not successful.

With about 30 kilometers to go, the peloton split up with the maneuvers of Simon Yachts, Superman Lopez and Mikel Landaeven though Covidand only by running out of teammates, he held up perfectly.

The race broke up in a group with 30 runners, with the favorites in the front positions, and a fragmented peloton that could not catch up, despite a crash that split the escapees 2 kilometers from the finish in Otura.

In it, the most affected was the Ineos player from Granada Carlos Rodriguez that he lost two and a half minutes due to the mishap.

The positive note for his team is that his partner Magnus Sheffield He achieved the stage victory, jumping powerfully and taking advantage of the confusion in the last kilometer to cross the finish line alone.

The province of Granada will be the epicenter this Saturday of the fourth and penultimate stage of the Andalusian Route, which will be held between Cúllar Vega and Baza with a layout of 167, 4 kilometers, three mountain passes and two flying goals.
