The penalty kicks have brought amazing emotions. As many as eight series were played in them. The players were wrong because of the fourteen shots they missed as many as ten. Only the Russians: Nikita Gusiew and Yegor Jakowlew and the Swedes: Lucas Wallmark and Joakim Nordstrom hit the net.
The goal of the 20-year-old was decisive
In the eighth series of penalties, the Swede Max Friberg entered the puck first. However, he did not manage to score. The response was 20-year-old Russian Arseni Gritsyuk and it was his team that was happy to be promoted to the final. Interestingly, Gritsyuk was the youngest penalty shooter out of all 16 players.
Earlier, in the regulation time, it was the Russians who opened the score. They were leading from the 21st minute after a goal scored by Anton Slepyshev. The rivals didn’t respond until the third period. Anton Lander equalized in the 37th minute. The extra time did not bring any goals and there was a series of penalties. We know very well what happened in them, although the emotions lasted until the end. The Swedes were already leading 2: 1 and they could have decided about the promotion to the final. They did not take their chance, and the Russians equalized after a while. Neither side could defeat the rivals’ goalkeeper for a long time, but the Russians managed to do so in the 8th series.
In the match for the gold medal, the Russians will face Finland, which defeated Slovakia 2-0 in the second semi-final. The goals for the winners were scored by Sakari Manninen in the 16th minute and Harri Pesonen right before the end of the match.
Slovakia will face Sweden in the clash for the bronze medal.
