The Pinatar Cup is an international womens friendly football tournament. Eight teams take part in this year’s edition. Apart from Polish women, Spain is played by Welsh, Scottish, Slovak, Belgian, Irish, Russian and Hungarian women.
Eight teams were divided into four pairs. The winners advanced to the semi-finals, the losers will fight for places 5-8. Unfortunately, Polish women who lost to the Irish 1: 2 on Wednesday will fight for lower positions.
Nina Patalon’s players took the lead in the 48th minute, when Paulina Dudek scored a goal from the penalty spot. Unfortunately, later the opponents won and advanced to the semi-finals thanks to two goals from Louise Quinn, who scored in the 66th and 75th minutes.
Polish women lost in the friendly tournament
The next match of the Polish representatives will play on Saturday at 15:30. Our rivals will be defeated against the Russia-Hungary pair. This game will be played on Wednesday night. If our team wins on Saturday, they will play for 5th place in the next match. If he loses, he will play for 7th place.
In addition to the Irish, the Welsh players are also in the semi-finals of the tournament, who defeated the Scottish 3: 1. The Welsh girls will play against a better team from the Slovakia – Belgium pair in the semi-finals. The Irish women are waiting for the winner of the Russia – Hungary match.
The tournament will end on Tuesday, February 22. On that day, matches for 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th place will be played. For Polish women, the tournament in Spain is an element of preparation for the spring matches in the qualifying rounds for the world championship in 2023. After six rounds, the Polish women are third in the group with 11 points. Our players are two points behind the Belgians and five points for the Norwegian women.
The group’s winners will go to the world championship, and the other team will play in the play-offs. On April 7, the Polish women will host the Armenians, and five days later we will play against the Norwegian women. The last matches against Albania and Kosovo will be played by the Polish women in September.
