Cristiano Ronaldo breaks bad streak and Manchester United recovers in the Premier League

Cristiano Ronaldo, with a goal, broke his streak of six games without scoring this Tuesday and gave Manchester United victory against Brighton & Hove Albion (2-0), team in which the Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo was on the benchstill unable to debut in the Premier League.

Cristiano ended his worst scoring streak in thirteen years in another bad game for the Red Devils team, but in which Brighton’s mistakes behind meant that the three points stayed at Old Trafford.

Once again, David De Gea was in charge of making all this possible, with several saving interventions in a discreet first part of both teams and in which the clearest was Jadon Sancho against Robert Sánchez. The Englishman, after a backheel from CR7, ran into a save from the Spanish goalkeeper.

In the second half came the carousel of errors by Graham Potter’s team that cost them the match. Yves Bissouma, one of those wanted by the Premier media, fell asleep on his laurels, Scott McTominay stole the ball from him and quickly gave it to Cristiano. The Portuguese, in two touches, planted himself on the front, left one and nailed it next to the post.

Great goal for the Portuguese star, who threw himself on his knees and celebrated his fifteenth goal this season, the ninth in the Premier, far from Mohamed Salah’s 16 in the race for the Golden Boot.

The match was made even more difficult for United when Lewis Dunk got lost in the ball exit and knocked down Anthony Elanga, who had ‘stolen his wallet’. The referee, at first, only gave him a yellow card, but the VAR checked that he was the last defender and sent him to the street.

Ralf Rangnick’s men played 35 minutes with one more and enjoyed opportunities to close the match, but Sánchez was immense. He took a header from Cristiano and a hand in hand with Bruno Fernandes. And he could only see how CR7 lost the opportunity to achieve a double when a header a meter from the goal went just touching the post.

Forgiving so much, they could get into trouble and Brighton, with a shot from Jakub Moder, crashed a ball into the crossbar ten minutes from time. Not even with one more did United have a calm ending, which ended up asking for the time, and that in the last breath, with the time expired, they found themselves with a counterattack that culminated in Bruno Fernandes leaving Sánchez on the ground.

The victory puts United in Champions League positions and remains fourth, with 43 points, two more than West Ham United, which is fifth. (D)
