Mateusz Sochowicz, the best Polish tobogganer, was in the team for the Beijing Winter Olympics, even though he had a very serious accident nearly three months ago. After the accident, Sochowicz underwent an operation in China to remove a broken kneecap in his left knee. He also had his right leg sewn open, and it was cut so deep (down to the tibia) that at first the injury was considered an open fracture. Sochowicz began to cooperate (daily conversations) with a psychologist, and immediately returned to Poland to undergo rehabilitation. – This year’s games were personal for me, because I scooped them out with my teeth and decided to test them. The results were an addition, although I must admit that the sportsman nevertheless reminded himself that it could be a lot better – he started his post on Instagram.

As he admits, he even considered resigning from representing Poland in his next starts. – And here I am facing a great dilemma as to whether I want to continue to represent the homeland of people with whom I do not identify myself at all – Poland is regressing! – he will admit.
