The head of the Russian Bar Association, Sergei Alekseev, assessed the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), according to which the organization will refuse to hold an awards ceremony if Russian Kamila Valieva is among the winners at the Beijing Olympics. His words leads “360”.
According to the lawyer, 15-year-old Valieva was not suspended from the Games, which makes such a restriction unlawful. Alekseev noted that the decision can be appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The IOC refused to hold an awards ceremony for the winners of the team figure skating tournament, where the Russian team took first place. The committee said that they would also refuse to award medals based on the results of the individual tournament, if Valieva is among the winners.
Earlier, on February 14, CAS allowed Valieva to participate in the Olympics. The athlete will perform in the individual figure skater tournament on February 15 and 17.
The Olympics will last until February 20.
