“He owes it …” shouted fans at the stadium. It was already added time to the second half. And he, the club’s president and owner, although he already knows this offensive chant about himself from previous matches at Łazienkowska St., might not have heard it on Sunday. Or at least he couldn’t hear her from his seat in the box, where he spent most of the game, incl. accompanied by the former president of Raków Częstochowa.

It was the 72nd minute, judge Łukasz Kuźma, after consulting VAR, showed a red card. The Legia goalkeeper flew out of the field for pushing David Szymonowicz away. In a seemingly harmless situation, because Boruc already had the ball in his hands and was leading Legia’s action, he weakened the team. It was from that moment that Dariusz Mioduski no longer sat in his place in the box. The president got up and left. He was furious even on TV. Maybe not even on Boruc, but on the whole stadium – on the referee who, with his decision, weakened the Legia even more.
Vukovic then just spread his hands
Legia was losing 0: 1 then, and could have lost 0: 2, but Adam Zrelak missed a penalty shot. At Łazienkowska Street, everyone was happy about this box. Probably the most unexpected replacement for Boruc in the goal. Or least probably. On Sunday, after the Legia coach, there were practically no signs of nerves or emotions, which the Serb had already known in the past. When he was not even a coach of Legia, but an assistant of other coaches. When he was mad at the line, he jumped to the judges, argued with them about every detail, and sometimes even ran up to the visitors’ sector and provoked the visiting fans, pointing “eLka” in their direction [znak kibiców Legii].
On Sunday, however, Vuković was exceptionally calm during the match. Although it seemed that it would be different, when already in the 12th minute he took off his down jacket and stayed in the same sweatshirt. In the 23rd minute the coach of Legia even approached the technical referee – right after Szymonowicz scored a goal for Warta. But not to argue with him, only to talk calmly. Exchange a few sentences and return to his bench, where Vuković just grabbed his hips just a moment earlier, as he saw the awkwardness of his players in defense, who allowed Warta to score a goal.
“We are struggling to maintain, we are aware of it”
Defense is not the biggest problem today, because Legia has improved the organization of the game on defense. She worked hard on it during the winter training camp in Dubai and it shows. Just like the fact that trouble is mainly ahead, on the offensive. It was visible on Sunday in Warsaw, but also a week ago – in Lubin, where Legia was inaugurating the year.
– Let’s not do “wow” because of these three points. It is only one match that was not played, no one knows how – said Vuković after the match against Zagłębie. And his words only confirmed another meeting with Warta, because it was no “wow” again. – Let’s face it: it was a poor, very poor game in our performance. And the result reflects it – admitted Vuković after Sunday’s game.
And he repeated what he had already said in December. – We are fighting for maintenance, we are aware of it. And our awareness is even greater now. Until recently, someone was under the illusion that it was otherwise, after the match with Warta no one has any doubts. We all have to get used to this situation, admitted the Serb.
Not “if?”, But “when?”. It was certain that Legia – which lost 13 of 18 league matches before the winter break – would break this infamous record. The only question was “when?”. It happened on Sunday, in the second game this year, which – as if it did not sound now – was the 14th defeat of the season for the still current Polish champions.
In its more than a hundred years of history, Legia has never had such disgraceful statistics in the league. In no season. . And this is not the end yet, because there are still 14 games to be played in the league. And with such a game, she can be sure of what Vuković is talking about now. So that until the last match she will tremble for the existence of the league.
