German Chancellor Olaf Scholz threatened Russia with “serious consequences” if “military aggression” against Ukraine is observed. This was stated by the head of the German government on the way to Kiev.
According to him, Germany is waiting for “signals of de-escalation from Moscow.” “Further military aggression will have very serious consequences for Russia. In this I absolutely agree with our allies. We are witnessing a very, very serious threat to peace in Europe, ”RIA Novosti quotes the chancellor.
At the same time, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that on February 15, during the talks in Moscow between Scholz and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the focus would be on the situation around Ukraine, security guarantees and the fate of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Meanwhile, it has already become known that Scholz arrived in Kiev, where he will hold talks with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on security issues, TASS notes.
Recall that recently in Western countries, as well as in Ukraine, there have been statements about a possible “invasion” of Russia into Ukrainian territory. American speakers argue that the attack could happen “any day”.
Moscow denies all accusations and maintains that Russia poses no threat to anyone. Earlier, various Western media indicated that the sign of the “invasion” is the accumulation of Russian military equipment in the regions bordering Ukraine. At the same time, among the likely anti-Russian sanctions were both the shutdown of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, as well as restrictions against Russian energy companies, and the shutdown of the SWIFT international interbank settlement system.
We add that today the finance ministers of the G7 countries (G7), which includes the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany and Japan, warned Russia of “massive” sanctions in the event of its “invasion” of Ukraine.
