The State Duma reacted to the CAS decision in the case of Valieva

The head of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, Dmitry Svishchev, called fair the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport to uphold the removal of the suspension from the 2022 Olympics from the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. It is reported by Championship.com.

He also stressed that it is necessary to conduct an internal investigation and find out what happened. “The most important thing is that we will see our athlete on the ice. Camila will delight us with her brilliant skating. We hope that this whole situation will not affect her, ”Svishchev responded.

CAS closed the case on Monday 14 February. They said that the decision in favor of the 15-year-old athlete was made taking into account her status as a “protected person” and a special approach to her.

CAS did not uphold the appeals of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Skating Union (ISU) against the decision of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) to remove the provisional suspension from competitions from Valieva. Sanctions were imposed on the athlete after traces of the banned drug trimetazidine in a microdose were found in her body.
