The head of the US Olympic Committee, Sarah Hirshland, condemned the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) exit panel to lift the temporary suspension of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. Her words are quoted in Twitter organizations.
“We are disappointed with the message this decision carries. This is a new chapter in Russia’s systematic and comprehensive disrespect for clean sport,” Hirshland said. She urged the Olympic Movement to continue the fight for clean sport for the sake of athletes from all over the world and added that athletes have been deprived of the opportunity to compete in a fair manner.
Earlier on February 14, CAS lifted Valieva’s temporary suspension. The figure skater was allowed to participate in the individual tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. The reason was the status of the “protected person” of the athlete and the late notification of a positive doping test.
Valieva’s dubious doping test became known on February 9. In this regard, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has postponed the awards ceremony following the results of the team tournament of the Olympics. The Russian team, which included Valieva, became the winner in this type of program. The Americans came in second.
