Figure skating coach Alexander Zhulin was delighted with the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to uphold Kamila Valieva’s admission to the individual tournament at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. It is reported by Championship.com.
“Glory to you Lord! Hooray! God bless! It’s good that there is such a solution. The fact that Kamila Valieva will be allowed to individual competitions is at least something. I am very happy,” said the specialist.
CAS closed the case on Monday 14 February. They said that the decision in favor of the 15-year-old athlete was made taking into account her status as a “protected person” and a special approach to her.
CAS did not uphold the appeals of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Skating Union (ISU) against the decision of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) to remove the provisional suspension from competitions from Valieva. Sanctions were imposed on the athlete after traces of the banned drug trimetazidine in a microdose were found in her body.
