On Monday, January 31, all of Poland could breathe a sigh of relief. After more than a month of intense and exhausting research and a whole lot of media speculation, we found out who was the new coach of the Polish national team. At a special conference at the National Stadium, the president of the Polish Football Association, Cezary Kulesza, officially announced that he would lead our team.
The president of the Polish Football Association for a long time could not decide on any candidate, although Michniewicz was free from the very beginning of his search. At one point, it seemed that he would return to the Polish national team, but there was a chance to hire Andriy Shevchenko, who was dismissed from Genoa, on the horizon.
Boniek criticizes Kulesza for the idea of employing Shevchenko. “Fortunately”
Cezary Kulesza did what he could, but ultimately it was not the Ukrainian who did not manage to terminate the contract with the Italian club. Zbigniew Boniek turns out to be very happy about it, who in sharp terms assessed the idea of employing Shevchenko in the “Cafe Futbol” program.
– Fortunately, he did not become the coach of the Polish national team, because in my opinion he was the worst candidate available. He would come to us after a completely unsuccessful end of his adventure with the Ukrainian national team, although it is known that he was more of a PR face of this team, and the team was trained by Mauro Tassotti on a daily basis. In addition, in Genoa he lost 7 over the course of 10 matches … And such a slightly “defeated” coach would take over the Polish national team and lead it in an extremely important play-off against Russia? – Boniek wondered.
The former president of the Polish Football Association also confirmed that it was the contract with Genoa that was the main reason for the failure of the negotiations with Kulesza. – After his departure, the only candidate could have been a Polish coach. I don’t know how advanced the case of Shevchenko was, but the truth is, he didn’t even ask Genoa CFC to terminate his contract. I think that both sides would be able to agree on money, but there was no such topic at all – added Boniek.
Czesław Michniewicz is already operating and traveling around Europe to meet the representatives. The first play-off match, while the Poles will play on March 24. On that day, our team will play against Russia at the Dynamo Stadium in Moscow.
