Defender of the Russian national hockey team Alexander Nikishin called the Czechs simulators after the defeat in the match at the Beijing Olympics. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to him, the Czechs feigned in the match in the hope of earning a removal. “Dmitry Voronkov didn’t even hit Lukasz Sedlak, he just turned around to the puck. I didn’t even hit Tomasz Ghika in the face, and he fell. I didn’t even touch him,” Nikishin shared. He noted that the Russian team had to win and will improve in the next meetings.
The final match of the group stage of the Olympic tournament ended with the victory of the Czech Republic in overtime with a score of 6:5. The Russian striker Voronkov was sent off before the end of the game in the 38th minute for hitting the head of the Czech striker Sedlak. Nikishin received a two-minute penalty in overtime.
On February 11, the Russian team reached the quarterfinals of the tournament ahead of schedule. This happened after the Czech Republic ended in a regular time draw against Switzerland. Thus, no team in Group A will be able to get ahead of the Russians. The last match of the group stage against the Czech Republic had no tournament value for the Russian team.
