Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester Citystressed that he hopes “talent and skill” will dictate the football of the future.
The Spanish coach gave an interview to Sky Sportsbefore this Saturday’s game against Norwich City, in which he detailed what he hopes football will be like in the coming years.
“My wish is that it is talent and ability that dictate the future of our football, not that the coaches tell you that if you want to be a better player you have to go to the gym and then you will playGuardiola pointed out.
“When you can go from two or three players and put the ball in the top corner, that’s quality, not going to the gym. I hope that the streets of the United Kingdom, of Brazil, of Argentina, of Spain, everywhere, continue to produce talents that show that this sport is precious”.
Asked about his impact on the game at a global level, Guardiola assured that he did not arrive at City thinking that something was going to change, nor when he was at Bayern Munich. “I want to influence my players, that’s all. I’m not arrogant enough to think I can control anything beyond my team.”.
“I remember years ago when a team won the World Cup and then everyone analyzed it and said that this was going to be the trend that would dominate football in the coming years. Everyone wants to copy the winner. That is an error. Soccer is not about copying and pasting. I can’t copy another coach I like and paste him into my team if I don’t believe in it. A coach succeeds doing what he believes in”. (D)
