New information on the case of Walijewa. The IOC gave the date of its final decision

The 15-year-old girl became the first competitor in the history of the Olympic Games to successfully perform a four-fold jump (twice). Thanks to her phenomenal performance, Russian athletes won the gold, but the medal ceremony with the participation of a figure skater was not achieved.

It turned out that an illegal substance – trimetazidine was detected in Walijewa’s body. The sample of the 15-year-old girl was collected on December 25, ie one and a half months ago. Trimetazidine is a drug used in ischemic heart disease, it has a cardioprotective effect, ie it protects the cells of the heart muscle. WADA (World Anti-Doping Commission) strictly forbids this chemical.

The IOC and WADA appealed to CAS. The case of Walijewa should be clarified by February 15th

There is new information on the young figure skater. The International Olympic Committee informed that the final decision regarding Walijewa is to be known by February 15, as reported by Reuters.

The IOC, like the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), appealed to the Arbitration Tribunal for Sport (CAS), which means that Walijewa is currently unable to participate in another competition – soloists will perform at the Beijing Olympics, which was scheduled for Tuesday, February 15th.

. “Considering the fact that a positive athlete’s sample was not collected during the Olympic Games, its result and the results of the entire team in the team competition at the Olympics are not a subject for verification” – reads the official statement of the Russian Olympic Committee .

Walijewa is not yet 16 years old, so according to the law he is a protected person. This means that even if she breached an anti-doping rule, she could not be officially identified by the competition organizers.

The Russians won the team gold for the second time in history (they won the silver medal in Pyongyang four years ago). Silver was won by the United States and bronze by Japan.
