Peskov urged athlete Valieva “not to hide her face” and “walk proudly” like a Russian woman

The story of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, whose doping test turned out to be positive, is connected with a misunderstanding. This was announced by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, according to TASS.

“Now we are convinced that we are talking about some kind of misunderstanding,” he said.

According to him, there are questions about the timing of checking Valieva’s samples, but the Kremlin does not comment on the situation until the end of the proceedings. Peskov also suggested waiting for the completion of the proceedings on the situation.

“And we say to Camila:“ Camila, do not hide your face, you are a Russian woman, walk proudly everywhere and, most importantly, speak out and win everyone! Peskov added.

The figure skater’s doping test, taken on December 25, 2021 (before the start of the Beijing Olympics) at the Russian Championships, which was held in St. Petersburg, tested positive for the banned cardiac drug trimetazidine. The International Olympic Committee has filed an appeal against this decision with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) issued a special statement stating that while Valieva has the right to train and take part in competitions.

Kamila Valieva is 15 years old, she is the current champion of Russia and Europe. The Russian woman holds world records in the short, free and total programs.
