Olympic champion in speed skating, now State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova spoke about a doping scandal involving Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. Her words are quoted by Rise.
Zhurova said that the trimetazidine found in the 15-year-old athlete is used to support the heart muscle, so doctors had to get permission to use it. She called the representatives of the Figure Skating Federation guilty, who did not achieve a therapeutic exclusion for Valieva. “This is carelessness. “Perhaps” will not work now, especially in relation to Valieva, because they are looking at her under a magnifying glass, ”summed up the deputy.

Earlier, on February 11, the International Testing Agency officially confirmed that Valieva’s December 25 doping test tested positive for the banned trimetazidine. After that, the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Olympic Committee filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the decision to lift the temporary suspension from the 2022 Olympic Games Valieva. Her case must be considered before the start of the individual tournament at the Games.
Together with the Russian national team, Valieva won the team tournament of the 2022 Olympics. She must take part in the individual tournament, which starts on February 15th.
