Averbukh estimated Valieva’s chances for the second gold of the Olympics if she was admitted

Choreographer Ilya Averbukh, in an interview with a Lenta.ru correspondent, spoke about a doping scandal involving Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva.

“I want to turn to Camila with words of support, it is extremely difficult for her to be in limbo. I also urge everyone not to run ahead of the locomotive: at first she was accused ahead of schedule, then they announced ahead of time that everything worked out. The situation is very difficult,” Averbukh said.

The specialist also spoke about Valieva’s chances for a gold medal in women’s singles. “If everything goes well, she will in any case remain the favorite of the women’s individual tournament. I am sure that Valieva is a strong girl, what happened will not break her. The main thing is that she was allowed to compete. We will wait for the 15th and believe in the best, ”added Averbukh.

Earlier on February 11, the International Testing Agency (ITA) officially confirmed that Valieva’s December 25 doping test tested positive for the banned trimetazidine. After that, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) to cancel the temporary suspension of Valieva from the Games.

Her case must be considered before the start of the individual tournament at the Games. The start of the competition is scheduled for February 15th.
