Guberniev assessed the likelihood of depriving Russia of the gold of the figure skaters team tournament

Sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev estimated the likelihood that Russian skaters will be stripped of gold in the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Guberniev considered that, legally, domestic athletes would remain Olympic champions in Beijing. He stressed that the Russian side must make every effort in court to prove the innocence of Kamila Valieva. “An awards ceremony will be held, and then it will be necessary to explain and prove. It will take a long time. As far as I understand, we are leaving here with a medal,” the journalist said.

Earlier on February 11, it became known that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the decision of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency to lift the temporary suspension from the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing Valieva. The reason was the positive result of the athlete on trimetazidine, found in the sample dated December 25. Her case will be considered by a special commission before the start of the individual tournament at the Games.

The IOC emphasized that the possibility of revising the results of the figure skaters’ team tournament is not excluded. In this case, the victory may go to the American skaters.
