The head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, said he remained puzzled by how much the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) processed the doping test of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Pozdnyakov considered that the figure skaters could deliberately delay the decision on the doping test until the end of the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. He stressed that, in accordance with international standards, the period for loading an A sample is 20 days from the moment the sample was received in the laboratory, and the sample taken on December 25 in St. Petersburg was processed for almost a month.
Earlier on February 11, it became known that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) to lift the temporary suspension from the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing Valieva. The reason was the positive result of the athlete on trimetazidine, found in the sample dated December 25. Her case will be considered by a special commission before the start of the individual tournament at the Games.
Valieva’s dubious doping test became known on February 9. In this regard, the IOC has postponed the award ceremony of the Olympic team tournament.
