Before that, they were even more successful. In 2004, at the tournament, played as the host, they won the vice-championship of Europe. Then they were led to this success by team captain Uros Zorman, who is the record holder in terms of performances for the national team of Slovenia (225 in which he scored 523 goals).
The Slovenes were also close to the podium twice. They took fourth place at the 2013 world championship and at the 2020 European Championships.

Now it is Uros Zorman, a former outstanding player who is considered by many experts to be the best middle quarterback in the world, to lead them to the medal zone of great tournaments. It was thanks to his great game that Łomża Vive Kielce won in 2016. With the Kielce club as a player, he won seven Polish championships and eight national cups. He was also third in the Final Four of the Champions League twice. As a second coach, he added two championships and one Polish Cup to his successes.
The Handball Federation of Slovenia (RZS) on Thursday confirmed that Zorman has become the new coach.
– Together with the personnel committee, which was supplemented by the chairman of the expert committee, we conducted an in-depth comparative analysis of potential candidates for a new trainer among domestic and foreign experts. Zorman has extensive experience in the game and in recent years has grown up with the greatest coaches in European handball and has a winning mentality, explained the election Franjo Bobinac, President of the Handball Federation of Slovenia.
Zorman has finally made his dream come true. – When the Slovenian national team rings, there is never any doubt in my life. I am honored and happy to have the opportunity to be the first coach. I will talk to a few candidates for professional staff soon. I will start preparing for the upcoming challenges. It is an obligation and a responsibility, but I will do my best to bring Slovenia back into the world elite. We are in a difficult position, but I believe that together we will find a winning path, ”said Zorman.
First, there is one goal ahead of him – promotion to next year’s world championships, played in Poland and Sweden. The qualifiers for this tournament will start in mid-March this year. The Slovenes will face Italy in the qualification first. If they beat these rivals, the Serbs will face the World Cup.
