Four-time Olympic biathlon champion Alexander Tikhonov called for punishment of those responsible for the possible use of doping by Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. His words are quoted by Sport24.
“This is pure carelessness, impunity and lawlessness. Whose? Everyone. We were deprived of everything after Sochi. They did it on all sides and again they are talking about a political order. Now the fate of a 15-year-old girl will be broken, God forbid, ”Tikhonov said. He considered that those responsible for the entry of a prohibited drug into Valieva’s body should be imprisoned.
On February 10, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova commented on information about Valieva’s dubious doping test. She called what is happening a psychological attack on the Russian team.
It was reported on February 9 that the banned drug trimetazidine was found in the sample of a 15-year-old Russian woman. A day later, it became known that Russia would not be deprived of the gold medal in the team competition, and Valiyeva would be allowed to compete in the singles tournament. At the same time, the International Olympic Committee, together with the International Skating Union, has not yet approved the award ceremony for the Olympic team tournament.
