You should not create a hype around the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva ahead of time, said Dmitry Svishchev, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, he assessed the situation with a problematic doping test and noted that the hassle does not help the psychological balance of athletes. Therefore, according to him, the Russians at the Olympics now need to be supported.
Earlier, the official representative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Mark Adams, refused to comment on the topic of Valieva’s dubious doping test, calling it speculation.
“You understand that I will not comment on speculation on this topic. Yes, some legal situations arose yesterday, but it is inappropriate to comment on this. But a potential case of doping is speculation,” Adams said.
He recalled that the IOC had delegated the authority for doping tests to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the International Testing Agency, and called for them to be contacted.
The hype around what is not
Svishchev thanked IOC representative Mark Adams for refusing to comment on the situation in which the Russian athlete found herself. Thus, he did not allow the topic to develop and develop into endless speculation. “Often, intrigues and rumors are born, unfortunately, by ourselves. After all, we use some information that came from someone. In this case, from the well-known information portal Inside The Games, which is known as a kind of structure that throws insider information. Everyone else is starting to think: our media, and officials, and functionaries – everyone and sundry are starting to make assumptions, ”said the chairman of the relevant State Duma committee.

He urged everyone who has access to the media to refrain from harsh statements and not to create hype around the athlete. “There are officials, leaders of the Olympic Committee of the Russian Federation and the Figure Skating Federation, a coach – they are working to remove all the differences that now exist. You need to have a little patience and everything will be fine. No need to cheat yourself and blame the entire planet that everyone is against us. No, there is a problem that needs to be solved now, that’s all, ”he concluded.
He called this situation ambiguous and nervous. However, Svishchev stressed, all athletes are well aware that in the world of sports there are provocations, misunderstandings and mistakes. They are taught not to react to these external stimuli and to be focused on their task, he added.
“Of course, all this hassle does not help the psychological balance during the biggest and, perhaps, the main competitions in the life of an athlete. Therefore, now the coaches, our Olympic Committee need to analyze the situation and support our athletes, protect them from all kinds of attacks and create all the conditions for them to train and perform with dignity, without thinking about the difficulties that arise around, ”concluded Svishchev.
Earlier, the portal Inside The Games reported that the doping test of 15-year-old Valieva was questionable. It is noted that the test was passed outside the competitive period – in December 2021. On February 10, it became known that Valieva went to training on the eve of the competition in women’s singles.
