Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, during a conversation with reporters, said that the scandal with the doping test of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva did not flare up at the Olympics at all, but among those who “started screaming” without understanding what had happened.
“The scandal broke out not at the Olympics, but around the Olympics, among those who did not have proper information. Not knowing the essence, they began to yell right and left, ”Peskov said.
The Kremlin spokesman urged to focus on the International Olympic Committee (IOC). “You heard the statement of the IOC, there is no point in saying something,” Peskov explained.
On February 9, the Inside The Games portal reported that the doping test of 15-year-old Valieva was questionable. According to media reports, the test was passed before the start of the Olympics – in December 2021. The sample contained traces of the drug trimetazidine, which is used to prevent angina pectoris.
IOC spokesman Mark Adams declined to comment on this topic and recalled that the committee had delegated the authority for doping tests to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the International Testing Agency, calling for them to be contacted.
