The official representative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Mark Adams, declined to comment on the suspicious doping test of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, calling them speculation. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“You understand that it is not I who will not comment on speculation on this topic. Yes, some legal situations arose yesterday, but it is inappropriate to comment on this. But a potential case of doping is speculation,” Adams said.
He recalled that the IOC had delegated the authority for doping tests to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the International Testing Agency, and called for them to be contacted.
“I will not say who is in charge of this case. These are just legal issues, work is underway. As for the ceremony and its cancellation, this is also a speculation. You need to be patient so that it all comes to a concrete result. We hope for the understanding and patience of all the athletes involved in this situation,” Adams explained.
Earlier, the portal Inside The Games reported that the doping test of 15-year-old Valieva was questionable. It is noted that the test was passed outside the competitive period – in December 2021. Also, according to media reports, traces of the drug trimetazidine, used to prevent angina pectoris, were found in the sample.
On February 10, it became known that Valieva went to training on the eve of the competition in women’s singles.
