The Manchester club returns to the field on Saturday, at 14:30 (GMT), when they face Norwich City away from home. Brentford welcomes Crystal Palace at noon.

The game – The first half was very close and balanced. Despite dominating possession of the ball, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were not able to finish with such regularity and did not bring great danger to the opposing goal.

Brentford, coached by Thomas Frank, positioned themselves waiting for counterattacks, but did not stop putting pressure on the home team in their defense field. In general, the visitors were successful in neutralizing the attempts of the citizens.

However, despite the difficulties faced, City opened the scoring in the 41st minute, with Mahrez. After Raheem Sterling was fouled inside the area, the referee awarded a penalty. The Algerian hit the right angle of David Raya, who jumped to the other side, and converted the kick.

The hosts came back well from the break and increased their lead in the 24th minute. Brentford’s goalkeeper missed the ball, which reached Sterling. The English winger dominated and kicked from the edge of the area, for Raya’s defense. On the rebound, De Bruyne did not waste the opportunity and scored the second, securing the 2-0 triumph.

Coutinho shines in Aston Villa draw

At 30 minutes of the first half, the attacking midfielder received a cross from Matty Cash and, from inside the area, dominated and finished low, in the right corner of the goalkeeper. Thus, he scored the first of the hosts and tied the confrontation.

Eight minutes later, Coutinho provided his first assist to Jacob Ramsey. At 43, he scored the second decisive pass, which put Villa in a partial advantage of 3 to 1. However, Marcelo Bielsa’s team reacted and left everything the same in the complementary stage.
