The American Boxing Confederation (AMBC) sent a letter to the Minister of Sports of Ecuador, Sebastian Palacioswhere he warns him that they will not recognize the elections that they intend to carry out in the Ecuadorian Boxing Federation by the controller who appointed that State portfolio.
Jose Laureano SepulvedaPuerto Rican and president of the AMBC, in the official letter states: “We have learned that it is intended to call for elections of the Ecuadorian Boxing Federation, by the auditor that you have appointed. Therefore, we must officially inform you in advance that both the International Boxing Association (IBA) and the AMBC will not recognize the results of those elections that are intended to be held since they do not comply with the requirements established in the IBA or AMBC Constitution”.
The international director emphasizes: “The participation of an intervenor by the Government to carry out an election process in a sports federation is contrary to the regulations of international sports federations and what is established in the Olympic Charter, which requires the non-intervention of the State in the internal affairs of its affiliated federations”.
Laureano highlights: “The procedures to be followed in the election process of the federations affiliated with the IBA and AMBC are established in their constitutions, as manifested in previous communications sent by the international entity that governs our sports discipline, which accompany this letter, where it is stated that no external interference will be allowed in the electoral processes of its member national federations”.
The manager defends the independence of its affiliates: “We, together with the IBA, in accordance with our Constitution and regulations, protect our national federations, so that be absolutely independent in the control of boxing in their countrywithout any interference from the Government, Olympic Committee or third parties”.
He also informed him that, at the request of the then controller of the Ecuadorian Boxing Federation, Raúl Zambrano, and José Antonio Fabara, a Ministry official in his charge: “I held a virtual meeting on December 17, 2021. In said meeting we made known the position of AMBC and IBA before the possible call for a new election by the Government represented by the Ministry in charge.
In the final part, it is ordered to recognize the Ecuadorian leader: “So we ask you to attend to the letter sent by the IBA President, Mr. Umar Kremlevon May 19, 2021, to recognize the directory of the Federation of Ecuador (chaired by Álex González) legally elected for the period 2019-2023 in order to protect the interests of Ecuadorian athletes and allow them to participate in all events of IBA and AMBC and so on contribute jointly to the development of boxing in Ecuador”.
