The fight for the gold medal in men’s short track over a distance of 1000 meters lasted until the last moment. Just before the finishing line, the gold medal was won by the representative of Hungary – Shaolin Sandor Liu – who will overtake the Chinese – Ziwei Ren. Hungary, whose father is Chinese, triumphed, even though Ren seemed to be shoving him illegally in the last centimeters of the competition.
Despite the doubts about the events at the finish, it was not Ren but Liu who was disqualified. The judges noticed the illegal blocking of a rival by Hungary a few moments earlier. Protested by the hosts, the gold medal was won by Ren, his silver countryman Wenlong Li, and the brown brother of the disqualified Liu – Shaoang Liu.
The fight for medals at this distance was incredibly fierce, full of drama and surprises. At an earlier stage of the competition, Koreaczyk Park Jang-hyuk on a stretcher left the rink, who suffered a collision. The leader of the world ranking – Pascal Dion – dropped out in the pooffinals, and the world record holder – Hwang Dae-heon – just like Liu was disqualified for illegal contact with a rival. In both cases, the judges did not provide details of the decision.

For Koreaczykw this is another controversy, after their competitor – Kwak Yoon-gy – criticized and accused them of partial after Saturday’s mixed relay, in which the Chitsians triumphed. This time, however, the players did not decide to behave in a similar way.
– It was a very tough competition. There were a lot of twists in it. Anyone deserves a medal, said the silver medalist Li. – We are not judges and there is nothing we can do. We will stay, that it was a very exciting race from start to finish – added the brother of disqualified Shaolin Liu.
– What did I say to my brother? I’m proud of him and keep my head high because he was great, and such things happen in the short track. A new day is about to come, and with it new challenges. We will come back stronger – he will finish.
