The Leningrad Regional Court refused to change the measure of restraint in the form of house arrest for 80-year-old professor Valery Mitko to a softer one, which provides for walks. Lawyer Anton Golubev told Znak.com about this.

Recall that Mitko is accused of treason.

According to the interlocutor of the agency, the professor was allowed to go outside from April to August, but then walks were banned on the proposal of the Deputy Prosecutor General. Golubev explained that the prosecutor referred to the fact that the current legislation does not provide for walks when imposing house arrest.

The lawyer noted that the court had the opportunity to change the preventive measure to a ban on certain actions.

Meanwhile, Valery Mitko has already suffered three heart attacks, and after the installation of five stents in his heart, he received the third group of disability. The lawyer specified that the condition of the elderly man worsened after the initiation of a criminal case. Last year, Mitko ended up in intensive care.

The criminal case was initiated in the summer of 2020. According to the FSB, the man was selling information about Russian submarines to Chinese intelligence agencies.
