After being arrested on rape and assault charges, Mason Greenwood was released on bail last week after being questioned. Also, new charges were later added for sexual assault and death threats.
The 20-year-old was suspended by Manchester United until further notice, which resulted in him no longer training or playing with his team.
Last week, Nike released a statement saying it was “very concerned about these disturbing allegations” and said it would continue to “closely monitor the situation”.
Now the brand has confirmed that Greenwood will no longer have its sponsorship: “Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete.”
Manchester United have removed all of Greenwood’s merchandise from their website and his name is no longer on the list of options to add to the shirt.
Greenwood, revealed at Manchester United, debuted in the ‘Red Devils’ first team in 2019. In 129 games he scored 35 goals and has a contract with the Old Trafford club until at least 2025. With the England national team, he played one game, in September 2020.
