American FasterSkier journalist Nathaniel Hertz explained why he asked Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov about doping. His words are quoted by Sport-Express.
Hertz noticed that, due to his profession, he was used to asking uncomfortable questions. He stressed that he considers Bolshunov an excellent and outstanding athlete who has never had positive doping tests. “However, because of Sochi-2014, you gave the benefit of the doubt a kick. In 2014, everyone laughed at my question about cheating. And what happened next, you yourself know, ”the journalist said.
Earlier on February 6, Bolshunov won the skiathlon. His advantage over the closest rival was 1.11 minutes. At a press conference after the race, Hertz asked Bolshunov a question about the use of illegal drugs. The Russian called the question ugly and advised the journalist to come to his training.
Bolshunov’s gold in the skiathlon is the first for the Russian team since the Olympics in Turin in 2006. The skier himself became the Olympic champion for the first time in his career.
