Jacek Kurski reacts to the Kubacki medal. The pinnacle of insolence

This is a special season in ski jumping for Polish fans, because in summer TVP sensationally lost the right to broadcast most of the competitions. And it lost them to TVN, with which – to put it mildly – it does not have the best relations. This season, public television has the right to broadcast only “Polish” editions, that is competitions in Zakopane and Vilnius. TVP also broadcasts – next to Eurosport -.

It just so happened that Polish jumpers were disappointing this season. There is no Pole in the top 15 general classification of the World Cup. The best of them – Kamil Stoch – is only 22nd. Therefore, the bronze Olympic medal was a surprise. Przemysaw Babiarz, on TVP, joked that Kubacki’s good results are due to the fact that … “jumps returned home”.

– Ladies and gentlemen, for reasons beyond the control of TVP, the jumps may not have enjoyed great popularity recently, but they have come back home and there is an immediate effect – said the commentator.

The head of TVP Jacek Kurski also “playful” in a similar vein, ascribing the success to Kubacki … TVP. “You yourself saw what happened. As soon as the jumps returned to Polish Television, the successes of Poles immediately came. We have an Olympic medal for Poland! 2 Poles in the sixth, 4 in the final round. . This would be the best place in history, because so far Poles have won only one medal in the winter games in the team – the game in Pyongyang. This is mainly due to Kubacki. How was the rest?

Kamil Stoch was third after the first round (101.5 m), but in the second round he was worse (97.5 m), which gave him the sixth place. Stefan Hula will show two weaker jumps and was classified in 26th position. In turn, Piotr ya was 21.

A conflict between TVP and TVN

Both stations have been in conflict for many years. Mainly because of political issues. TVP is a pro-government station, while TVN supports the opposition. The political conflict affects other issues, such as sport.

During the January P in Zakopane, there was a media scuffle. TVP treated this competition as an opportunity to compete with TVN. But the test is pale.

Saturday’s competition was watched on TVP1 by 2.11 million, and Sunday – 2.51 million. Journalists of the website “Sport Marketing” wrote: “compared to the previous year it is a gap.” In 2021, the Saturday competition in Zakopane was then watched by 6.3 million viewers. In turn, the Sunday struggle – 6.51 million.

As the website wrote then, the myth that – as TVP authorities claimed – public television was “a house of jumps” also collapsed. The competition in Ruce was watched on TVN and Eurosport 1 – 3.24 million viewers. In turn, the Sunday competition – 3.66 million viewers.

Certainly, the general condition was influenced by the poor form of Polish jumpers. In the team competition, Michał Doleal’s team took sixth place, while in the individual competition the best Pole was Piotr ya, who took the 17th place.
