Deluxe Ski Jump has become a cult game in Poland. Entire generations have played the role of ski jumpers. Spending computer science in the class competition at DSJ has even become a tradition. What was the key to the production success and how has it won the hearts of so many Poles over the years?
Promotion Deluxe Ski Jump pomg … Adam Maysz
The series’ origins date back to 1999, when Jussi Koskela released the first episode of Deluxe Ski Jump. The Finn was not yet known how much of its production will be heard. After all, ski jumping is a specific activity and in many countries it is almost completely ignored. So what must have been the programmer’s surprise when suddenly DSJ turned out to be a phenomenon in … Poland!

It so happened that shortly after the premiere of the game, Adam Maysz was on the lips of all Poles. The jumper’s success at the 49th 4-Hills-Tournament contributes perfectly to the promotion of the sport itself. The children began to see an idol in Maysz, wanting to imitate him in some respects. However, it is obvious that the conditions for training ski jumping are very unusual, so most young people can only imagine how it all looks and what they know.
And here the Deluxe Ski Jump is on the stage. Maysz’s triumphs coincided with the premiere of the second part of the series. It attracted new enthusiasts of the discipline. The game was open to the public, which made it even more popular. Meetings with friends or school IT lessons have become places of competition straight from the Four Hills Tournament. Everyone wanted to feel like Maysz, even if only in a virtual form.
The key is simplicity
In addition to the fact that Deluxe Ski Jump can have virtually everyone, the game also has very simple mechanics that could be learned in a few minutes. The controls were based on the use of the mouse. Clicking the right buttons at the right moment and balancing the jumper’s body were the keys to success. The only deceptive element is the wind. It often leads to spectacular falls, especially in the case of new players. This aspect, however, only gives even more fun – after all, who sometimes hates to laugh at such incidents, as long as no one is getting hurt, of course.
This simple simplicity in steering made it possible to involve all possible people from the environment in the game. And that was the point. Deluxe Ski Jump was a trivial game to use, but it provided great fun and diversified spending time in a group
The further fate of the series
With the technological progress, the next editions of the DSJ also changed. The third part, released in 2004, offered 3D gameplay. And indeed – the game was much nicer than its predecessors, the graphics were refined, and the content was much more extensive. Only that the series is slowly losing its natural qualities, which were based on simplicity, connected to some extent with tradition.
The fourth part saw daylight in 2011. Further graphic enhancements made it look bland, but changes include many customers do not like the controls. This was no longer the same as the nation’s youth raved about at the turn of the century, although the series still has a loyal following, and is quite popular at the same time.
A nice touch and an interesting diversion took place in 2020, when the nostalgic Deluxe Ski Jump 2 appeared in the mobile version in the Google Play store. The possibility of returning to the past in a refreshed edition certainly makes more than one sympathizer of the series feel a sentimental cord to the eye.
The Deluxe Ski Jump 2 charity tournament starts today
As the editors of Sport.pl, we took the initiative to restore the iconic shine, doing a good deed at the same time. Nieuczesana, Saju, Bonkol and Kubx will take part in the Four Stream Tournament. They will fight for a sum of 10,000 zlotys for a charity goal of their choice.
The Sport.pl website will promote and report on streams and will classify the results of the participants of the campaign, just like in the case of traditional ski jumping. The broadcasts will be branded with the Sport.pl logo with the annotation “Best jumps in the Internet”. On the selected streamer’s channel you will be able to see his competition on two selected ski jumps. The sum of the best results obtained by the participant of the action on both hills will be included in the final classification, which will be the winner of the entire tournament, and streamers will also invite their fans to broadcast.
– Poles love ski jumping – says Patryk Stec, head of the esports department at Sport.pl. – More and more people are also interested in esports and computer games. So we decided to combine these two passions by creating the Four Stream Tournament at Sport.pl. It will be not only great fun, but also a charity event, because we will donate 10 thousand. with the social goal chosen by the winner of the competition.
Sport.pl is eagerly involved in charity and social activities. The editorial staff of the website focuses not only on sports information, but also organizes and supports numerous pro bono campaigns. Last year, she organized, inter alia, the “Costumes za asy” project, as part of which, for each service ace of Polish volleyball players, she donated match kits to young players and players. .Sport.pl.
