Inflation in January was the lowest in the last 9 months, says the BCRP

Inflation in January reached 0.04%, the lowest in the last nine months, when in April 2021 it stood at 0.10%, according to the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

In this way, the year-on-year rate of inflation decreased from 6.43% in December 2021 to 5.68% in January 2022, one of the lowest rates among the main countries in the region.

Inflation without food and energy fell 0.16% in January and accumulated an increase of 3.08% in the last twelve months, a rate lower than the 3.24% registered in December 2021.

The price increases with the highest incidence on inflation in January were papaya (43.0%), restaurant menus (0.9%) and yellow potato (9.7%); while the decreases in prices with the greatest negative contribution corresponded to eviscerated chicken (-8.0%), domestic airfare (-29.7%) and bonito fish (-18.0%).
