With the 3000 meter run, the women’s competition at the National Speed Skating Oval began. Among the competitors taking part in today’s competition, however, there were no Polish representatives. The competition was held in pairs whose composition was determined according to the World Cup classification.
Speed skating. Miho Takagi the best in the first part of the struggle
In the first round of the competition for medals over a distance of 3000 meters, Natalia Voronina, Yevgeny Lalenkov, Miho Takagi, Nadezhda Morozova, Ahenaer Adake won their “duels”.

After several minutes of break, the best skaters entered the track. After two more heats, Miho Takagi managed to keep the lead, but only temporarily. The Japanese leader was changed by the Olympic champion from Vancouver, Martina Sablikova. The Czech woman was very close to breaking the four-minute barrier (4: 00,34).
Moments later, Isabelle Weidemann improved her result by almost two seconds, setting a new track record and taking the lead. The real feast for the fans was the last race, in which the medals of the most valuable metals were “distributed”.
Irene Schouten faced Francesca Lollobrigida. The fight continued until the last lap. The Dutch woman set a high pace from the very beginning, but the Italian bravely kept pace with her. Eventually, Schouten won gold, who also broke the first Olympic record for those with a score of 3: 56.93. Silver went to Lollobrigidia. The bronze was won by Canadian Isabelle Weidemann.
