She reached Beijing on 27 January for the Olympic Games, the world vice-champion in the 500-meter race and the European champion in the same distance. She did not train long, because on January 30 she had a positive covid test result and was sent to isolation. On Wednesday, February 2, she had a negative test result. If she had such a result on Thursday, February 3, she would be taken to the Olympic Village and she would be able to get ready for a sports fight.
“The fight begins anew, then”
Unfortunately for Natalia Maliszewska her Thursday test was positive. – Natalia has tests on the border of positive and negative. There is a chance that he will come out tomorrow with the next one.
Unfortunately for the competitor, her Friday test was positive. This canceled her chance to start in the main competition at 500 meters. The Polish woman is entered for starts at 500, 1000 and 1500 meters, but she definitely feels the best in the first competition.
– Today’s result has changed absolutely nothing, because we received information that Natalia still has a coronavirus and a decision that the protest submitted by us was rejected. What is the truth, however, whether the last test influenced the decision, we will probably never know – said Jakub Jaworski, Maliszewska’s manager in the Sport.pl Live program,
Was the most recent test borderline or did it have a higher CT score than the previous ones? – Dominik Wardzichowski, a journalist from Sport.pl who runs the program, asked.
– As far as I know, this is a quantitative virus quota one can have. Then you can ask for conditional release from isolation if you stay for more than seven days and you do not have symptoms. Today’s test, however, was of a lower value, ie it was further from the threshold for entering the village. Therefore, the fight begins anew, added Jaworski.
How is Maliszewska? – It’s hard to talk about any positive attitude. It is a blow to Natalia, because she has worked on it all her life. However, I feel fine. However, she can even feel worse because of isolation. The room is very little. One of the best forms is to limit contacts and isolate yourself. That is why Natalia may be in a worse mental form, admitted Jaworski.
Of course, this is not the end of the Games for Maliszewska. But neither at 1000 meters nor at 1500 meters Natalia is not as great as at 500 meters. silver in the world championships, gold in the European championships and the World Cup. Three months ago she won the pre-Olympic trial in Beijing. Natalia Maliszewska at 500 meters was the greatest medal hope of the entire Polish team at the Beijing 2022 Olympics.
