Olympic champion in figure skating Alina Zagitova positively assessed the performance of Russian athletes on the first day of the team tournament at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. The athlete spoke on the air of Channel One.
Summing up the results of the starting competitive day, the skater noted that so far the Russian team is just a little short of leadership. “At the games in Pyeongchang, after the short program, we were fifth, and here we are second, so there is a huge chance to win gold medals. All Russian fans are really looking forward to this, ”said Zagitova.
After three types of program (short program for men and sports couples, rhythm dance for dance duets), the Russian team takes second place in the standings with 26 points. The US team is leading with 28 points.
Zagitova competed for Russia in the team event at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games and won a silver medal. She also won gold in women’s singles.
