Milos Kosanović, 31, came to more than a decade ago (on July 1, 2010 to be precise) from the Serbian Mladost Apatin. In Krakow, he played 88 matches in which he scored 10 goals and scored seven assists. Thanks to this, in January 2014 he moved to the Belgian KV Mechelen for 300,000. Euro, and after two years he made another sport promotion – he went to Standard Liege for 2.5 million euros. He left Standard in the summer of 2019 to Al-Jazira from the United Arab Emirates (for EUR 650,000) and as it turned out, thanks to this transfer he had a chance to play at the KMŚ.
Al-Jazira has been promoted as UAE champion (always the host country champion plays in this tournament). And in the first round, Kosanovic’s team faced an easy task – the fight with AS Pirae, the representative of Oceania (the local LM was not finished, and the representative of Oceania was to be New Zealand’s Auckland City, which, however, withdrew from the tournament due to the restrictions related to the coronavirus). This is an amateur club that is a Tahitian champion. And therefore a defeat of only 1: 4 with Al-Jazira – where players such as Abdoulay Diaby bought from Sporting or Joao Victor from Wolfsburg, or Thulani Serero, known for playing in Ajax – play, can be considered a good result.
In the 41st minute Kosanović increased the result to 3-0 with a nice free-kick (fans in Belgium may remember the Serbian defender for effective long shots).
This is how Kosanović scored a goal at KMŚ:
Al-Jazira will play in the KMŚ quarterfinal with Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia, the Asian champion. The winner of this pair will play in the semi-final with. In the second part of the bracket, Al-Ahly (Egypt, African champion) will play against Monterrey (Mexico, CONCACAF zone LM winner), and the winner will face Brazilian Palmeiras.
