Russian bobsledders tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the Olympics

Russian bobsledders Vasily Kondratenko and Alexei Pushkarev will not be able to compete at the Beijing Olympics after they tested positive for COVID-19. This was reported to TASS by the President of the Russian Bobsleigh Federation Elena Anikina.

She noted that instead of infected bobsledders, spare overclockers Vladislav Zharovtsev and Alexei Zaitsev will fly to Beijing on February 7. In addition, Alexander Yefimov, a spare overclocker, will go to China on the same day. On Thursday, February 3, overclocker Alexei Laptev arrived at the Games, having received a negative test result for coronavirus.

Earlier, the captain of the Russian women’s ice hockey team, Anna Shokhina, compared the Beijing Olympics to the popular Korean TV series The Squid Game, as “people drop out one by one.” She also said that hockey players are a little worried that every day someone can catch the coronavirus. At the same time, the athlete noted that everything in the team is positive and they are preparing for the upcoming competitions.

The Winter Olympic Games in Beijing will be held from February 4 to 20.
