The coronavirus could once again leave a mark on the professional League of Legends scene. This time, the problems concern the players of the Korean DRX organization. In the worst-case scenario, the game schedule may be changed.
An esports organization in the face of the coronavirus
The coronavirus pandemic continues to affect League of Legends gameplay. The vast majority of European regional leagues, as well as the best of the West – the LEC and LCS – remain the domain of the online game. The studios, built for the purposes of the matches, are empty, and the hall is empty, except for the broadcasters.
As reported by the South Korean organization DRX, the coronavirus will also affect this team. Zeka, BeryL, Pyosik Kingen and one of the team members tested positive for COVID-19. The other members of the formation tested negative or are still awaiting its result. This follows from a statement DRX published on February 3 on its Twitter profile.
Will the game schedule change?
A positive test result would not be a big problem in the West, where the games are played remotely. However, players in the League of Legends Champions Korea do not play from the privacy of their home or office, but directly from the arena. This greatly complicates the situation. According to the instructions, Riot Games DRX should use the reserves until the starting five recovers. However, the organization has only two substitutes, so the game developer may allow the team to field players for the academy.

The worst case scenario, however, can be fulfilled even if the players from the academy are infected. In this case, Riot Games may be forced to reschedule the games. The LCK is currently on a weekly scheduled break. DRX will not have to play the next game until February 9th. Perhaps an extended break will allow the players to recover fully and continue to compete in full squad.
